Aim

Building a Puerto Rican Community in Spain while supporting rural revitalization, cultural exchange, and new opportunity.

Proyecto Puerto Rico en España is an initiative of The National Puerto Rico & Spain Initiative dedicated to creating new opportunities for Puerto Ricans interested in living, investing, retiring, studying, or building businesses in Spain.

Our project was inspired by a simple idea: while many rural communities in Spain are facing population decline, thousands of Puerto Ricans are actively seeking new opportunities, a better quality of life, affordable housing, stronger communities, and a deeper connection to their historical and cultural roots.

Our goal is not simply relocation. We are working to establish a sustainable Puerto Rican community that contributes to local economic development, cultural exchange, entrepreneurship, tourism, and community revitalization. Similar to how communities such as Little Italy or Chinatown developed over time, we envision a welcoming environment where Puerto Ricans and Spaniards can work together to strengthen local communities while preserving cultural heritage.

After extensive research, community meetings, and consultations with professionals in Spain, our current focus is Andalucía, where we are evaluating municipalities that offer access to healthcare, education, transportation, housing, and economic opportunities while maintaining the character and quality of life found in rural Spain.

A cornerstone of our vision is the creation of the Museo de la Autonomía Constitucional de Puerto Rico de 1897, which we believe will be the first museum in the world dedicated exclusively to Puerto Rico's autonomous constitutional government established under the Carta Autonómica of 1897.

The museum will not only preserve and showcase the history of Puerto Rico's autonomous government, but will also celebrate the rich cultural heritage that defines the Puerto Rican people. Through permanent and rotating exhibits, visitors will learn about the contributions and influences of Puerto Rico's Indigenous Taíno heritage, Spanish heritage, African heritage, and the unique cultural fusion that emerged from these communities over centuries.

Exhibits will explore Puerto Rico's history, language, music, traditions, architecture, cuisine, arts, military service, migration patterns, and cultural achievements. Visitors will gain a deeper understanding of how these diverse influences shaped Puerto Rican identity and continue to enrich Puerto Rican society today.

The museum will serve as both an educational center and a cultural bridge between Puerto Rico and Spain, helping preserve an often-overlooked chapter of Puerto Rican history while promoting cultural exchange, tourism, historical research, and community engagement.

Funds raised through this campaign will help support legal incorporation in Spain, administrative expenses, community outreach, educational programs, municipal engagement, website development, planning and development of the museum, and the organizational infrastructure necessary to establish Proyecto Puerto Rico en España as a long-term community initiative.

We believe that by building bridges between Puerto Rico and Spain, we can create opportunities that benefit both Puerto Ricans and Spanish communities alike while preserving an important part of Puerto Rico's historical, cultural, and constitutional legacy for future generations.

Thank you for supporting our vision and helping us build this exciting project.
