We're still collecting donations
On the 9th August 2022 we'd raised £5,405 with 72 supporters in 35 days. But as every pound matters, we're continuing to collect donations from supporters.
Using a system of mutual aid to tackle social isolation and food surplus, this fundraiser would enable us to stay open until Christmas 2022.
On the 9th August 2022 we'd raised £5,405 with 72 supporters in 35 days. But as every pound matters, we're continuing to collect donations from supporters.
With this increase, we would be able to stay open beyond Christmas 2022 and into the new year. Not only continuing our current operations, but crucially, buying us precious time to establish sustainable income for our future.
Foodhall is a multi-award-winning open dining room and kitchen in the heart of Sheffield city centre. Managed by the community, for the community, we tackle social isolation and encourage integration across a diverse range of groups.
We are a place for everyone to share food, drink, company, skills and time – all on a contribute-what-you-can basis. There’s no hard line between our volunteers and visitors to promote active citizenship rather than just consumerism.
Our core activity is the running of a community café , where communal meals made from surplus food donations and cooked by volunteers are served on a contribute-what-you-can basis.
To supply the kitchen and café Foodhall intercepts food surplus from local traders, and uses this to serve hot meals a minimum of three times a week.
We also run a Food Delivery Project to enable local groups and organisations to utilise food in their activities and get food to people in need.
Alongside our core activity, Foodhall is home to numerous community-led branch projects. Platforms for community members to pursue their own interests or share skills with others, these branches range from pickling sessions to bike repair workshops, art classes to DJ nights.
These branch projects are developed in line with the needs of the Foodhall community, and driven by the passion of our volunteers, who take responsibility for developing something that inspires them and something which others can share in and benefit from. Branch projects are key to building skills, confidence and wellbeing.
Foodhall is also a space for culture, music, arts and community events; hosting talks and academic presentations and festivals; and private parties and events. Profits from these events go toward funding Foodhall’s core and branch activities.
We want Foodhall to continue its place as a site for people to share food, skills and experiences together. Foodhall has been important to so many people, supporting our friends beliefs' at National Food Service, that "there should be a public eating space in every community".
We aren't willing to give-up so easily, and our staff, non-executive directors and volunteers are working so hard to find a sustainable means of carrying on our small organisation whilst recovering from the consequences of the pandemic.
Money raised in this Crowdfunder will allow us to survive until Christmas 2022. This time will be vital in the fight to secure a sustainable outcome for Foodhall's future. We are asking for your support to ensure we have done everything we can.
Please help support our final push to stop Foodhall shutting down. You can do individual fundraising events that links up to our account, host events in our space (we have a SUPER exciting pizza oven that has just arrived) and/or donate straight to our page to get some super cool awards.
