Aim

Lighting Our Future: Upgrading Wellington RFC to energy-efficient LED floodlights, creating more opportunities for rugby and our community.

Who are we?

Wellington Rugby Football Club has been at the heart of Wellington for over 150 years, supporting players of all ages and abilities through sport, community, and belonging.

Why are we crowdfunding?

Our current lighting is outdated, costly to run, and limits how often our pitches can be safely used. By upgrading to LED floodlights, we will:

• Reduce energy use and carbon emissions
• Lower long-term running costs
• Improve safety and visibility for all players
• Enable more year-round training and community use

Our Goal

We’re raising £15,000 from our community.  If we achieve this, Sport England will match fund a further £15,000 to help us reach our campaign target of £30,000.  In addition to this our team are working with community funders to achieve another £10,000. This will give us an overall investment of £40,000 for our thriving club.

We need our whole community to get behind the campaign and help us achieve our goal. 

The award from Sport England is only achievable if we raise £15,000 from at least 25 unique supporters!

How we’ll spend the money raised

All funds raised will go directly to the LED upgrade, should we raise in excess of the amount we need, the balance will be invested into further crucial improvements around the club.

Community impact

This project will benefit 17 teams, hundreds of players, and the wider community—creating a safer, more inclusive, and sustainable environment for sport, wellbeing, and connection. By upgrading to LED, we will reduce carbon emissions, lower our energy costs, and provide a safer, brighter environment for all.

This upgrade will allow more year-round training, increase participation, and ensure our facilities remain welcoming and accessible to the whole community.

How you can play your part

There are three simple ways to help us reach our target, and make this project a reality.

1. Make a pledge, or choose a reward tier to purchase. Please don’t delay if you’re going to support us because momentum is key to our success!  Remember, every £1 donated will be doubled by Sport England, therefore £50 becomes £100, £250 becomes £500, and so on. We have to achieve our goal of £15,000.

2. Spread the word. Share our project on your social media pages and ask the wider community to get behind us! The more people we reach, the more support we will get.

3. Offer rewards. Get involved if you are a local business by donating things we can offer to our supporters. We will give you a shout out!
