To provide safe, positive and educational Proms for LGBTI+ young people which promotes equality, and inspiration.
Following the American trend, Proms are becoming ever more popular within the UK. Unfortunately, as a result of fear, discrimination and prejudice a large portion of LGBTI+ young people do not attend their school proms or attend as their true selves.
Pride Prom’s mission is to provide a Pride Prom for LGBTI+ young people. This will provide attendees with a safe, positive and educational environment, that promotes pride, inspiration and acceptance for all, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity. The organisation aims to create opportunities for emotional growth, inclusion and freedom of expression as well as raising the profile and increasing awareness of the LGBTI+ community.
Pride Proms is a collective of friendly, creative, and enthusiastic volunteers from a wide range of communities including LGBTI+.
Pride Proms was inspired by one of the team and our different personal experiences of prejudice as young people. During this time Pride Proms was born to support, empower and inspire LGBTI+ youths through hosting Proms every year that welcome diversity.
In Britain alone, Stone Wall reported in their 2017 school report that.
Therefore, Pride Proms is important for LGBTI+ young people to have a positive experience and feeling of inclusion at their prom. Not only are we providing a safe, positive and educational event for LGBTI+ youths we are also providing a platform to promote LGBTI+ services that focus on health and wellbeing within their local community as part of the Pride Prom experience as well as supporting local talent who will perform at Pride Proms.
