The aim of our Pride is to Celebrate, Campaign and Connect the LGBTQ+ community of Gloucestershire.
Most people have heard of a Pride somewhere in the UK. However our focus in Gloucestershire is to ensure we deliver the Pride our community wants. Our Pride needs to celebrate LGBTQ+ identity and the progress we have made so far. "Campaign" by raising awareness publicly of the issues the LGBTQ+ community face, seek to eliminate discrimination, prejudice and improve social cohesion.
But also we need to make sure what we do is as inclusive and accessible as possible. We do this through a) not charging and making the activities open access b) having a number of zones to focus on specific parts of the community and c) work towards achieving the Attitude Is Everything accrediation for event accessibility.
We also need to ensure we engage our community through our direct consultative membership, involving volunteers, networking with other LGBTQ+ organisations and Prides and gaining feedback from those who participate to inform our strategy moving forward.
Our Pride has 3 main stages to bring people in but we focus on showcasing LGBTQ+ talent and also provide opportunities for local performers; we have a march though the City of Gloucester to create visibility; we have a Pride Hub open on the week before the event with support information, workshops and the ability to find out how to get involved in the LGBTQ+ community and we have zones for Families, Youth, Trans People, the Neurodiverse, the Bi community and an 18+ only area for the Kink community.
We also work with funders and sponsors to find out what they do to support LGBTQ+ people whether in their communities or their own employees.
Pride is a year round process and so we will also use this funding to support the year round administration in the build up to Pride and beyond moving towards 2023.
