Aim

Help us build a lifesaving hedgehog rescue centre - providing care, protection, and a future for our endangered hedgehogs!

Who are we, and what is our project about?

We are Prickly Pigs Hedgehog Rescue - a small, dedicated team caring for sick, injured, and orphaned hedgehogs in Yorkshire. From our crumbling old garage, we’ve helped hundreds of hedgehogs recover and return to the wild. But the building is no longer fit for purpose: it’s cold, leaky, and inaccessible. We’re passionate about giving hedgehogs the best possible care, and now we need a new purpose-built, low-cost "Hogspital" to continue our work. This project fits Climate Action by protecting native wildlife, supporting biodiversity, and creating an energy-efficient rescue facility while educating the public to hedgehogs plight.

Why are we crowdfunding?

We’re raising £30,000 (with Aviva match funding and other pledges) to replace our dilapidated garage with a warm, safe, sustainable facility. The current building limits what we can do — it has no toilet, poor insulation, and isn’t accessible. A new space will allow us to provide better care, train students, and support over 30 active volunteers who gave 8000+ hours last year. With your help, we can do even more.

How we’ll spend the money raised

• Build a new insulated building with dedicated triage and treatment areas
• Add an accessible toilet, kitchenette, and height-adjustable workspaces
• Install energy-efficient heating, cooling, and lighting
• Improve storage and create sheltered outdoor spaces for hedgehogs
• Upgrade equipment and provide a small office for rescue management
• Volunteer training and community engagement
• Data collection and habitat improvement (Project Hedge)

This is Giant, he was a teeny tiny baby when he was orphaned, he was hand fed by our volunteers before being successfully released into the wild.
