The bells of St Mary's Bridport are 100 years old this year. This project is to prepare the bells for the next 100 years.
We are the current team of bell ringers at St Mary's Bridport. The bells were re-cast and re-tuned just after the Great War, sponsored by the people of Bridport . The bells themselves are still very sound, but our project is to renovate the ringing equipment, looking at the moving parts such as bearings, wheels, pulleys, and ropes. This is our contribution, as current ringers, to prepare the bells for ringing into the next 100 years. As ringers, we see the importance of maintaining these lovely bells as best we can. We are a small team, and we acknowledge that we now need the help of the People of Bridport.
The bells are specially rung for National events such as Coronations, for Royal Funerals, as well as for weddings, local celebrations, and for the Church's regular services, and we are determined to preserve this historic feature of the town.
