Prehistoric Suffolk: archaeology for the community
We did it
On 17th August 2021 we successfully raised £315 with 6 supporters in 42 days

Who We Are

Past to Present Archaeology is a small, but expanding, archaeological organisation, promoting and supporting archaeological research worldwide, and encouraging community involvement.

Our Project

We have recently started a new research initiative to investigate the peoples of the Bronze Age in Western Suffolk. Our research site possesses numerous Bronze Age ring ditches that are visible as crop marks in aerial photography. Our long-term initiative is to run community excavations on the site to investigate these monuments and discover how prehistoric farming communities lived and buried their dead. So that we can understand how extensive the archaeology is, we want to undertake geophysics across a research area comprising 32 hectares. We need your help to fund the hiring of geophysical specialists to perform a magnetometer survey to help discover more hidden archaeology.

Our Vision

Our aim this summer is to cover at least 70% of this area to help define the current known monuments, discover new ancient monuments and reveal where these ancient communities lived.

We need the funds to be able to survey this extensive area to define existing monuments, whilst uncovering potentially undiscovered associated archaeological features and settlements. The more we can raise, the more extensive the survey we can conduct.

With your support, we can further our discovery into Bronze Age Britain, and continue to give back to the local community, as well as contributing to national and academic research.

All geophysical results will be posted onto our website, with further project updates. You can follow the discovery through our project page on our website: www.pasttopresent.org/prehistoric-suffolk

If you would like the opportunity to participate beyond donating to our project, you can join the discovery here: www.pasttopresent.org/experiences
