What is PoTS?
PoTS UK define PoTS as "PoTS is due to an abnormal response by the autonomic (automatic) nervous system and is characterised by orthostatic intolerance (the development of symptoms when upright that are mostly relieved by lying down)".
It may not sound serious but this condition affects millions around the world, to the point they cannot work, enjoy daily life or fulfil their ambitions. PoTS is a serious condition where people living with it can experience similar symptoms to those living with COPD and heart failure.Typical symptoms include:
- Racing heart beat
- Extreme weakness, fatigue and tiredness
- Nausea
- Fainting
- Sweating
- Brain Fog
- Gastro symptoms
Why Raise Money For PoTS?
PoTS is poorly understood, with the medical world only recently recognising it and diagnosing it as a separate condition. Funding is needed to further understand the condition so effective treatments can be developed. As it currently stands, many cardiologists can only treat a few of the symptoms. Urgent action and attention is needed to grow awareness of PoTS, research the condition and find effective treatments where those suffering from PoTS can resume a normal lifestyle.
Why Is The Vault Real Estate Trying To Raise Funds for PoTS Research?
The owners of The Vault Real Estate know too well what it is like living with PoTS. Ellie has only been recently diagnosed with PoTS and impact on her daily life is severe. Her husband Amun spent the last few years taking his wife Ellie for different tests, scans, screenings and assessments where doctors were unable to find the cause of her unusual symptoms. This got to the point where some of the doctors tried to blame anxiety as the cause of the symptoms. Both Amun and Ellie refused to believe it was anxiety, with Ellie knowing in herself it wasn't anxiety and Amun arguing that Ellie was not a chronic sufferer of anxiety. Only in the last few months, they come across a cardiologist who was able to understand Ellie's symptoms and diagnosed her with PoTS. She has started treatment for the condition, but this only targets a few of the symptoms and not the cause. The effectiveness of the treatment can vary on a day to day basis.
Funds raised will be donated to PoTS UK.
