Calling all water lovers to unite & send waves of positivity across Newquay; it’s an opportunity to make a real difference to the physical & mental health of the local community.
A Community Project for Newquay
This is a community project based right here in the heart of Newquay. It’s a pay it forward campaign created to help people access the ocean in a safe, supportive and positive way.
The physical & mental health benefits of spending time in the water are well documented, yet there are many people in Cornwall who don't have access to the ocean due to chronic health conditions, physical limitations or impairments, lack of confidence, social constraints or psychological barriers.
We want to help people find a way to access the ocean. Through supportive ocean sessions we'll focus on building their confidence and skills, and guiding them on a personal journey to feel more at ease in the water.
There is much to be gained both personally, and for the community by encouraging increased engagement with the ocean environment around Newquay.
Our Mission
Positive Waves is crowdfunding to offer water confidence courses and supported ocean activities to those in our community who don't currently access the water, but so greatly need the benefits. We want to open doors for people, and show them new possibilities; by gaining confidence in the ocean, the positive ripples of improved physical & mental health may start to transform other parts of their lives as well.
Supported Ocean Sessions
We want to help people access the ocean, enjoy their time in the water and benefit from the restorative energy of the sea. There are a host of physical and mental health benefits to spending time in the ocean, so there is much to gain from a gradual, supported learning journey, taking time to gain confidence & learn skills in the ocean environment.
- We will offer fun water sessions for all ages and abilities
- Small groups sessions with attentive coaches attention
- Supportive, no pressure environment
- Positive Goal Setting. Everyone is on their own journey and has their own personal goals, there is no need for comparison or competition.
- Sessions will be personalised to suit our guests
- Multiple sessions will be offered to build water confidence gradually
The Fundraising Plan
Over the summer season we are crowdfunding so that come the autumn, we can offer water confidence sessions and supported ocean activities to those in Newquay who need them most. The funds raised by Positive Waves will go 100% towards delivering valuable, personalised and impactful sessions.
We’ve already started our outreach to local charities, schools, community groups to identify those in their networks who'll benefit from supported ocean sessions, and we believe that this proactive engagement will help Positive Waves reach the people who need it most.
