Our Work
Our Positive Ageing services at Blackfriars Settlement are well known for the friendship and great meals we give our isolated older people. During the Covid crisis in 2020 we provided over 3000 meals. This was enabled by donations from our generous partners in the Blackfriars area: Moorecap, Polaris, Sainsburys, Plan Zhero, the Guild of Fine Foods, Borough Market and the Hilton Bankside.
We are currently running four lunch clubs a week where members who would be otherwise isolated can meet people and have food together. We feed over 85 people a week and are still also delivering food to over 20 older people who are unable to attend our lunch clubs.
Why a new freezer will make a difference...
Working with our partners enables us to play a part in reducing food waste as well as supporting people with healthy food options that they might not have otherwise. A few weeks ago our commercial freezer stopped working. This limits the amount of food we can collect locally from our partners to distribute to people who need it.
We are fundraising to buy a new commercial freezer for the Settlement. This will enable us to continue our valuable work of providing meals to isolated older people and reducing food waste.
