Who We Are

We are Portavogie Boxing Club, a proud community club at the heart of a rural and coastal fishing village on the Ards Peninsula.
Since establishing the club, we have provided a safe, welcoming environment where young people can get active, build confidence, develop discipline, and feel part of a supportive community.

Now, we want to take the next step in our club’s journey by opening our doors wider to women and girls—empowering them to move, connect, learn, and thrive through acce1763562579_pv_4.jpgssible, non-contact boxing

Why are we crowdfunding?

We want to raise £10,000 to create a female-only introduction to boxing programm, a safe, inclusive space for women and girls to get involved in the sport, many for the first time.

This won’t be traditional boxing. It will be:

Fun, accessible, and inclusive

Designed to build fitness, confidence, and emotional wellbeing

We’ll also introduce alternative movement-based sessions to broaden engagement and suit all abilities, including:

Rhythmic movement + boxing combos

Yoga for strength & flexibility

Pilates for core strength

Body-confidence and self-esteem workshops

Healthy lifestyle sessions (sleep, nutrition, body image)

Outdoor walk & talk wellbeing meet-ups

Peer mentor training

Young female leaders programme

Not only can you help us by making a donation to our appeal, but you can also encourage your daughter, wife, partner sister to join us on Monday or Wednesday evenings from 6pm at the club. We will be running for 12 weeks from the first week of January. So its not only the perfect way to learn new skills, but get into shape after a relaxing Christmas Break

1763562613_pv_9.jpgThrough this programme, we also want to support wider wellbeing, helping participants build healthier lifestyles, understand nutrition, reduce stress, and avoid risky behaviours.

 Women and girls in rural areas often have fewer opportunities to access sports, fitness, and wellbeing programmes. We are changing that.

H1763562640_pv_1.jpegow we’ll spend the money raised

New personal safety and training equipment including Chest protectors, hed guards, gum shields and of course, boxing gloves;

Specialist female boxing coaches;

An emotional wellbeing facilitator;

Nutrition & lifestyle support sessions;

Every pound will help us remove barriers, increase access, and create a long-term programme that supports women’s physical and mental health in our coastal community.

This project isn’t just about boxing, it’s about strengthening our whole community.

By supporting women and girls, we help to:

Improve physical and mental wellbeing across the Ards Peninsula

Reduce social isolation in a rural area with limited services

Create positive role models for younger girls

Promote healthy habits and positive lifestyle choices

Build confidence, resilience, and friendships

Offer safe, structured activities that help young people avoid risky behaviours

A stronger, healthier group of young women creates a stronger, healthier community.1763562732_pv7.jpg
