Aim

Printmaking is a meditative process. It is community based and experimental. I want to bring this experience to communities and collaborate.

Hi there! My name is Meg and I am a printmaker currently based in Hertfordshire. I lived and studied in Cornwall for over 4 years and found a love for the process of printmaking. It’s one that allows me to learn every time I make work. In the print room at university I met all kinds of creatives and learnt from people around me. It was an environment to collaborate, learn and experiment. I left Cornwall in 2018 and have maintained my creative practice, but printmaking has taken a set back because of a lack of access to facilities (and cost.) I’ve found alternative ways to edition and make work but working on the dining room table has its drawbacks.

Since graduating I’ve been working with numerous galleries and charities as a facilitator running workshops and encouraging creative thinking and play. I am at stage now where I really want to have a go at exploring my own workshops through printmaking, drawing and collage. This is where the portable printmaking press idea came from. As most etching presses are 2k plus (and require space) I decided to explore alternatives. This is where I came across table top presses that are A LOT lighter and some of them are portable. This could mean I could run workshops in various locations and encourage the dialogue of printmaking with new audiences. I am doing a crowdfunding campaign to raise money for the portable press. I have found ones that are light enough (or as light can be) and are big enough to allow for experimentation with size. These cost between £500-£750. I am aiming to raise between £1000-£1500 to raise money for the press and finding a location to run workshops. I entered the Back Her Business competition and my idea came runner up in my category so if I raise a certain amount they are prepared to match it. Which is super exciting. I am giving away incentives if you choose to support me on this project. This includes original prints, drawings, collages and hand bound sketchbooks with marbled paper as covers. I would really appreciate any donations towards this project. Printmaking and making art gives me a voice to communicate and I would love to share this with people.
