PORT ISAAC VILLAGE HALL NEEDS YOUR HELP!

A village hall is the hub of any community and ours is no different. We need to make all the hall facilities accessible to everyone and we need your help.

WORK NEEDED AT THE VILLAGE HALL

For many years one of the main problems with the Hall was access, which was by a set of steps. There was not enough room to build an access ramp and so instead, we built a stair lift! However, this hasn’t completely solved the problem. Now everyone can easily get into the Hall but once inside there are yet more steps to access the rest of the facilities. After consulting with the community we have decided to make some much needed improvements to the Hall. These will be achieved by building a side extension to house multi access toilets with baby changing facilities at floor level and an extended and refitted kitchen. 

At the management committee we have been working really hard to get all of the pieces of funding in place from every channel and grant available to us. We are very nearly there! We are running a crowdfunding campaign with the hope of uniting our lovely community and those who love Port Isaac behind the common cause of creating a better hall that can service the community now and for all future generations to come!

What does community mean to you?

Port Isaac is well known, loved and enjoyed by all who visit and live here. A little historical fishing village in the North of Cornwall where nothing changes but the tide. What makes Port Isaac special? The fish, the lobsters, the wonky streets?

All of these things...

But foremost, it's the salty characters that live here, for it's their warmth and their passion which maintains and preserves this place for everyone. 

When times are a changin' it is now more important than ever to look after the local assets that we've got in these little parts of England. Port Isaac Village Hall is a space for everyone, a meeting point, a singing point and an acting and all things dancing point.

This is where so much of village life is celebrated and shared with everyone. To ensure that Port Isaac remains to be a place to live just as much as a wonderful place to visit, we are launching an appeal to raise money for the sustenance of our most vital organ.

THE SALTY CHARACTERS

The community who live locally covers a whole spectrum of ages, ranging from young families to elderly members. The Village Hall provides a central place where an important range of activities can be held that benefit the wellbeing of everyone. Whether these are activities, groups or events that appeal to young children, teenagers, families, those retired and the older members of the community, the hall plays a focal role.

THE WONDERFUL GROUPS WHO USE US & OUR MISSON TO FIND MORE!

Regular Hall users include the Stay & Play group, the Yoga group, the Port Isaac Chorale, the Golden Circle and the singing group Gulls. Throughout the year the RNLI and the village Carnival Committee use the Hall for many of their fundraising events. In addition Port Isaac’s Drekkly Theatre Company use the Hall for rehearsals and performances of the village Pantomime and the local primary school uses the facilities for their own Christmas performances and associated rehearsals.

The Village Hall also hosts a huge array of fundraising events for many groups and organisations as well as private functions on an ongoing basis.

WHAT WE'RE DOING TO PROMOTE INCLUSIVITY & STRENGTHEN RESILIENCE IN OUR COMMUNITY

New initiatives

Two very important, popular and relatively new initiatives that have been held and organised by the Hall volunteers are the weekly Community Cafe and quarterly Community Lunches. Both of these events have become very important in bringing members of the local community together and are both particularly beneficial for the older members of the community providing them with opportunities to get together and socialise.

Considering the inclusive nature of what we do, the hall needs to be fit for purpose going forward to not only enable existing activities to continue to take place but also to encourage more organisations and groups to use the facilities.

The St Endellion Parish Emergency Plan

Our Management Committee is currently working with the Parish Council to ensure the Village Hall's essential role as the village's Emergency Centre in the St Endellion Parish Emergency Plan. 

Port Isaac Village Hall … a 124-year old hall in a conservation area. It's a traditional stone built, slate roofed building with the original single-glazed wooden windows. This status, while a great blessing does come with the expected trials and tribulations, to bring it into the 21st Century. The PI community have done a great deal of fundraising to make the hall environmentally friendly. 

Since 2001, the Committee has instigated many significant improvements to the Hall including internal and external refurbishments, new entrance and foyer area and dedicated chair store and the installation of an access lift. While fundraising is constantly ongoing by the Committee, the majority of funds raised go towards the ongoing maintenance and running costs.

AHOY THERE SAILOR, WHAT'S 'APPENING 'ERE THEN?

For the first time, we are launching a crowdfunding campaign to raise money for the village hall by offering some mouth watering, foot tapping and knee slapping rewards in exchange for your generous pledges (see below).

WHERE YOU MIGHT HAVE SEEN PORT ISAAC BEFORE

Port Isaac is small but actually rather famous, it's always in high demand for films and series, notably that of Doc Martin and the recent Fisherman's Friends movie. So if you really love Port Isaac, then this is your chance to get involved with one of its most ambitious projects yet!
