Co-op Warm Spaces Funding Boost has provided £500 of match funding
An opportunity to enjoy freshly cooked, affordable food if people wish, or simply chat, or join in with table top games and crafts.
Haxby & Wigginton Youth & Community Association are as small local charity responsible for the running of Oaken Grove Community Centre in Haxby, near York. Our aim is to provide friendly and accessible facilities in order to enhance the wellbeing of local residents in Haxby, Wigginton and the surrounding area.
We are a member led charity, who rely heavily on a small group of dedicated volunteers and trustees.

Our vision is to actively promote the wellbeing of residents in Haxby, Wigginton and the surrounding area, by maintaining friendly and inclusive facilities, accessible to all. Upon reopening this would be the flagship Haxby & Wigginton Youth & Community Association led activity, which we hope will secure the relaunch of the Pop Inn in its renewed space and format.
We will be using the money in order to offer space to the local community free of charge at a specific time. Initial funding received has enabled us to run our Pop Inn Warm Welcome as a warm place until the end of March, meaning we have been able to invite individuals to use space in our community centre, while ensuring that our expenses in terms of the actual room hire (including increased energy costs) are covered.
If we were to secure more funding through the Coop's Crowdfunding initiative this would be used to extend this offer beyond the winter months. We would be able to continue to offer a comfortable and inviting space for local residents to meet, enjoy a hot drink or meal, sing, play board games or work on a craft project.
We would be continuing the legacy of the Pop Inn which has been part of Oaken Grove's history for over twenty years.
