To provide renewable, sustainable energy to reduce our energy bills and do our bit for the environment.
Poole Sea Cadets is a Sea Cadet unit based in Dorset. We are a youth development organisation which enables young people to thieve by learning life skills through adventure and waterborne activities. We use multiple methods in teaching our young people both indoors, outdoors, and virtually to give a well-rounded experience. We offer national and international courses, enabling the young person to be independent and put life skills into practice. We are based on the customs and traditions of the Royal Navy; the uniform ensures equality allowing cadets to thrive on merit and ability. We have a 50-mile radius not just supporting cadets of Poole but the wider Wessex district. Our young people have access to a range of courses from First aid, catering to marine engineering. We offer DofE, BTEC and RYA qualifications that provide qualifications for life.
We are in the process of launching out sustainability project for Poole Sea Cadets. The ambition is to supply most of our electricity from renewable solar sources. In order to complete this we will install Solar panels and battery storage. Funding is already secured for this installation. To maximize the benefit we will also install a hot water heater that uses our solar power and efficient lighting throughout our building. Which is where we need your support. With a unit of 60 cadets and the equipment expected to last over 25 years the impact will be significant. Given our supporting function of many other sea cadet units within Dorset, Wiltshire and Hampshire the impact will be ever more far reaching. We will use the money saved from our energy bills to help support our activities ensuring we can continue to offer the very best Sea Cadet experience. The Saving is expected to be over £1500 per year which will make a significant impact.
