Aim
Corrosion is inevitable, when steel and salt water mix! Major overhaul of trailer required. No trailer, no boat diving.
Who are we?
Pontypridd & Llantrisant Sub Aqua Club, SAA 349 (Sub Aqua Association club 349) has been in existence for 50+ years. Covid hit us hard, but we have come through and have a new cohort of divers raring to go. Our members have been/are involved with NARC's (Neptunes Army of Rubbish Collectors), Sea Search and the Nautical Archaeology Society to name but a few. Our previous members have gone on to become Environmental Scientists, SCUBA dive school operators, professional underwater photographers, and all our divers gain a much greater insight of what our seas are all about!
Why are we crowdfunding?
The club has just incurred a very expensive repair on the boat engine, and with that now running, need to overhaul the trailer running gear. A reliable trailer will allow the club to visit sites further afield, and hopefully get involved with marine conservation and research projects.
How we’ll spend the money raised
The trailer will be taken to the OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) to have new running gear fitted - new axles and full brake system overhaul.
Community impact
The club pool training sessions take place at the Llantrisant Leisure Centre, but once participants have completed their pool training sessions they move on to diving training in West Wales, which involves use of the club boat and boat trailer. Having the trailer fully refurbished would give confidence to tow the boat to more launch sites, for varied experiences.
