Fundraiser to purchase toys for the Children's Outpatients department in the Royal Glamorgan Hospital and surrounding area.
In the summer of 2021, the Pontypridd RFC Mini & Juniors adopted the Pontypridd RFC 'Rainbow' jersey across all age groups. The rainbow jersey, along with the NHS logo, is an acknowledgement of the commitment and dedication demonstrated by all NHS staff during the COVID-19 pandemic. The NHS cause is close to the heart of the Mini and Junior Section, and everyone involved is keen to raise funds to assist in any way possible. During discussions with the Community Paediatrics team at the Royal Glamorgan Hospital, it was agreed that any funds raised would be used to purchase toys for the various Children's Outpatients departments within Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board. This includes Children's Outpatients departments in the Royal Glamorgan Hospital, Ysbyty Cwm Rhondda (Tonypandy) and Keir Hardie Health Park (Merthyr).
The range of toys on offer in Children’s Outpatient Departments has been severely reduced due to the increased infection control measures enforced during the COVID 19 pandemic. As a result, there are now limited means available to keep patients entertained and distracted whilst in clinic. It is hoped to change this situation by introducing several boxes of wipe clean toys that can be fully cleaned after use by one patient before being passed on to the next patient. By introducing such wipe clean toys it is hoped children will feel more comfortable in clinic, whilst continuing to meet current infection control measures. Also, the provision of such toys will enable staff to formally assess how the children are developing through the medium of play. The toys selected will be for the use and enjoyment of children with a variety of developmental and sensory needs.
We are aware that some people may not want the money donated to disappear into a 'black-hole' within the NHS. Therefore, the Section intends to purchase the toys directly out of the funds raised and to deliver them to the departments in person.
Please help us say a proper "Thank You" to our NHS heroes by donating to this worthy cause.
The Pontypridd RFC Mini & Junior section is a self-funding, non-profit organisation run solely by volunteers. Our vision is to educate children and young adults in the core skills and values of rugby union. These include teamwork, a hard work ethic and a healthy respect for officials, coaches, opposition players, parents and teammates. We do this by providing strong role models for the children and a supportive culture that positively influences behaviour on and off the field of play. We currently have over 240 playing members over 11 age groups and believe we provide a valuable service to the community.
