We want to make Portsmouth a greener, cleaner and healthier city, by tackling pollution, contributing to our city achieving net zero carbon emissions by 2030, and supporting urban biodiversity.
Parklets work to:
Parklets are where parking and under-used urban spaces are transformed into a community space with benches, community libraries, bike racks, seats and planters.
Over time they instill behaviour change – encouraging residents to use forms of active travel to get to the shops instead of using cars.
They've grown in popularity in other cities like London and Bristol and they work well in places like Portsmouth where green space is scarce.
The greening in the parklets includes native and wildflowers that attract pollinators, helping to create wildlife corridors along our urban streets.

Our first Pompey Parklet on Albert Road (outside Southsea Cycles) is now complete and open for all to enjoy – see the joyous video above! And we now need your help to raise remaining funds to install our second parklet along 'The Broadway' on Highland Road late this summer.
Innovation and change-making always comes with challenges, and a last minute requirement to apply for planning permission for The Broadway site late last year, has had costly knock-on effects for our community project.
We're ELATED to say we have now been granted planning permission, but as there has been a year gap from when we expected to install, we've had to pay for unforeseen storage costs and inflation has hit material prices hard.
So we need to have ONE LAST BIG PUSH to raise funds to cover the deficit in our project and install our second parklet site on Highland Road soon – and enjoy the late summer sunshine with Pompey's wonderful community!
This project is loved and supported by MANY, who we celebrate and thank and who make progressive community action in Portsmouth possible.
