Polyapes Scout Campsite Defibrillator

Aim

Purchase, installation, maintenance and training or an AED (defibrillator) for use of Scouts and users of public footpath behind the site

Polyapes Scout Campsite are looking at purchasing an AED for use on our site, to be located near to our gate on the public footpath on Oxshott common that is used by many locals, therefore allowing emergency access for our staff, users and members of the public should the need ever occur.

the AED will be suitable to be used on both Adults and Children, working with the British heart foundation, St. John’s ambulance and London Hearts the device will be purchased and fitted under there guidance.

The funds raised will help to pay for the defibrillator, a heated, lit locked box, that is all professionally installed, plus the ongoing maintenance - new pads every 12-24 months and battery every 4 years for the warrantied life of the device (10 years)

A cardiac arrest can happen to anyone. Every year approximately 55 out of every 100,000 people experience an out-of-hospital cardiac arrest, with most occurring in the home or workplace. In 7 out of 10 cases, CPR is attempted by a bystander. In less than 1 out of 10 cases, a public access defibrillator (AED) is reported as being used.

A bystander performing CPR and using an automated external defibrillator (AED) can increase the chances of survival by two to four-fold.
