Aim

Seeking match funding for our next project titled 'Represent', which will bring more UK wide live music acts from Autumn this year onwards.

Following on from the success of 'Pogo Presents' (an 8 event music programme, hosting multi-genre festival style bands), we now need your support to kick start our next live music project called 'Represent'.

'Represent' aims to focus on female artists within the underground music scene. Our criteria for selecting bands will mean super talented female front women or will include some amazing female talent within the band, seeking to address and/or give some thought towards the gender gap in the music industry. Our line-up will of course include all genders, but we want to ensure that there is some female presence within each band we host.

We don't want to give away the line-up but we have some great acts in mind including UK festival headliners and some special international acts! Expect hip-hop, ska, klezmer, reggae , world and more in usual Pogo style!

Pogo Events seems to bring in such a diverse and friendly audience, which we guess matches with our hugely diverse acts that we host! We love the friendly and welcoming atmosphere.

It is a challenge to host emerging bands in Plymouth due to the costs involved (especially travel expenses, with Plymouth being near the edge of the UK) and the lack of medium sized venues appropriate for this style of act. We want to keep ticket prices accessible to the community in Plymouth which is why we hope to lock in more Arts Council England funding for our next project.

The best possible way we can make the above happen, is to go in for another planned live music project via an Arts Council England funding application and hope that they will support the cause once again.

In 2022, the team from Pogo Events were over the moon when they got notified that their project proposal had been accepted. The project aimed to bring a certain type of alternative multi-genre festival type music scene to a new venue space in Plymouth.. and wow! What a success it was! We achieved 5 out of 8 sold out events and kept ticket prices under £5 for the whole project. Other music promoters have since worked with the upstairs space at The Roundabout pub and the venue is becoming more established and associated with an alternative music scene.

Why do we need Crowdfunding support?

Arts Council England applications can be more successful if you can evidence match funding. Last year, the venue we worked with (The Roundabout Pub), contributed some match funding to support the cause and we also use match funding via public ticket sales.

This time we want to increase our match funding slightly, to show Arts Council England how much of a success Pogo Events Round 1 was and that our audiences are calling out for more quirky live music events in Plymouth.

If this is you and you want to support the continuation of Pogo Events to the quality it was able to be due to amazing additional funding we were lucky to receive, we ask you to consider donating for the cause. In return, we promise you will get an AWESOME line-up of music next year and very cheap prices. We have plenty of ideas for energetic bands you will love.

What your donation means & what you will receive:

We aren't expecting you to donate without a reward! Our amazing line-up of artists from our first Pogo project have kindly donated a song of theirs to go onto a Pogo Presents compilation album! Wow, what an amazing compilation CD that is going to make!

If you donate £10, you will get a digital download of the compilation album. For £20, you will receive a physical copy of the album. £50 will get you a physical copy of the CD plus free entry in to any of our next 'Represent' Arts Council based project.

Even if you are not directly benefiting from the live music on offer in Plymouth, you can still pledge:

This is what your pledge means:

We are working towards getting accepted for another Arts Council England, Lottery funded grant. Reaching The Crowdfunder target, looks so positive on our application and will boost our chances of getting accepted hugely, as we are evidencing match funding and general public support on the project.

If our application gets accepted, we will receive a much larger pot of money from the Arts Council Lottery Grant, which covers:

1.Paying emerging and quality artists/musicians for their performances at a fair pay rate (via Musician Unions guidelines), as well as all other creatives involved in the project. They have a specific pot of money available for grassroots music related projects because they have recognised the huge impact Covid 19 had on the music industry. This is only available until March this year (next month!), so may be the last opportunity to do something like this.

2. 80% or more of ticket prices. Accessibility and public enjoyment are values shared by us and the Arts Council. Therefore, 80% or more of concert ticket prices are coved to ensure the event is as accessible as possible as per our project criteria and aims. Festivals are often far away, too expensive for a lot of people and therefore seeing the acts are generally not very accessible.

3. Booking local acts, giving them a chance to support bigger headline acts which increasing their opportunities, whilst providing them with fair pay.

The cultural and social impact this money and project will have in Plymouth is incredible, on many levels. We think we have a good case here in Plymouth! It needs a cultural and musical boost! It’s such a challenge to keep a good live music scene alive in Plymouth

*What if we don't secure Arts Council Funding?

Everything is crossed that we will. We are meeting the criteria here in Plymouth and our first Pogo Project went so well which is a great boost to the next application. If we reach near 100% on this crowdfunder, it will also be a huge boost to our application as we can evidence more match funding.

However, the Arts Council get so many applications that they do have to make difficult decisions and frequently decline proposals. If this happens, you will still get your Crowdfunder reward and we will still attempt to host this project with entry ticket prices being slightly higher and a relook at the line-up of acts to see whats possible.
