Aim: Katie is stuck in a Spanish hospital and being wrongly diagnosed/treated by the doctors. We need to get her on a medical flight back home.

Katie is a 22 year old Veterinary Nurse. She suffers from a condition called Functional Neurological Disorder which causes her to have intermittent non epileptic seizures. On June 13th Katie flew out to Spain for a weeks holiday with her Grandmother who lives in Alicante. This was supposed to be a much needed break for Katie who desperately needed some rest as her health condition leaves her very tired, especially as she is a dedicated and hard working member of the Vet practice she works at.

On holiday she had a seizure whilst on a day trip to a small island off the Spanish coast, this went on for over an hour so the Spanish emergency services decided it was best to air ambulance Katie back to the mainland hospital.
Since that point Katie, her family and friends have been living a nightmare as the Hospital now will not let her out! They insisted on a series of tests including MRI scans etc despite her family trying to tell them about her diagnosis and the plan she has in place, in conjunction with the NHS home in the UK.

The Spanish doctors have refused to listen and  have also been refusing to speak to Katies own doctor who is desperately trying to give them Katies medical history and treatment plan.

Currently the hospital are sticking to an incorrect treatment plan where they are insisting on using protocols for epilepsy which she does not have. They have heavily sedated her (to the point of induced coma) intubated her unnecessarily twice including at present where Katie has been sedated and unconscious for over 48 hours despite the family begging them to listen and take her off this incorrect treatment. They also have Katie in wrist restraints (despite them putting her in the coma), they have already admitting to overdosing her with diazapam, have her on Fentanyl which is highly dangerous and irresponsible and have also taken her clothes away against her wishes.  The family have been screamed at in their faces and told ‘We are Katie’s doctors now, she is on our country and we will do whatever we like!’

The only way we can get Katie out of the hospital and safely back to the UK is by a medical flight.  That aside the doctors will not release her despite this being against Katies wishes (who has been begging to be let home) against her families wishes and against Katie’s existing correct health plan.

Quite frankly we are all terrified for her safety left where she is, terrified by the lack of communication and by the lack of understanding of her diagnosis.

I’m sure most of us are aware of the devastating recent case of young Mum who lost her life in a Turkish hospital and we are desperately trying to get Katie to safety.

Sadly the cost of the medical flight is just something her family do not have. Please please please help us get her home to the safety of the UK medical system.
