Help me start my new business that aims to work with sporting clubs and coaches in integrating safeguarding and welfare principles.
After 20 years working with some of the most vulnerable in society and specialising in Safeguarding in Sport I'm passionate about working with clubs, parents, coaches and young people to work in a person-centred way, listening to children and providing them with a safe and happy environment where they can thrive.
I'm a passionate believer in the power of prevention and involving children in the discussion around how they can keep themselves happy and safe.
If you've seen any of the stories around abuse in sport in recent years, with a case like that of Barry Bennell and even in the last few months around gymnastics, not least identified in Netflix 'Athlete A', it shows how much work needs to be done around safeguarding and keeping our children safe both in grassroots and elite sport. I've decided to take the leap and set up my own business to help upskill coaches, parent, young people and all those working and volunteering in the sporting arena.
Wha
t will SO Training & Consulting do?
There are so m
any gaps and so much support needed to change the culture to ensure children and young people get the very best out of their sporting experiences where they learn so m
any life and transferable skills. With my business, I aim to work within sport to create training packages, tailored support and consultation for clubs, coaches, parents and young pe
ople and be an advocate for children when working with clubs, staff and volunteers.
SO Training and Consulting's first project...
My first project is providing a free 5-day challenge to support Club Welfare Officers to ensure they have the knowledge to fulfil their roles and safeguard those in their clubs safely, effectively and with confidence, and with your help, I can make this a reality. In the challenge, I will offer participants the opportunity to go on to sign up to a 3 month intensive paid programme of training, support and mentoring with me and access resources to support young people around safeguarding and wellbeing subjects at their club.
