Who are we?

We are International Play Association (IPA) Scotland, part of the International Play Association - a global, member-led organisation dedicated to upholding every child’s right to play. Our work is driven by a deep belief in the power of play, and by the voices of our members who advocate for children across the world.

As a branch and together with other IPA branches and IPA members, we are launching this campaign on the UN International Day of Play. We want to ensure that all children can exercise their right to play, particularly those children living with conflict and crisis.

What's the idea?

In response to urgent calls from our members and key partners, we are launching a fundraiser to translate the ‘Play in Crisis’ Toolkit into Arabic. This vital resource, created in 2017 by the International Play Association, has already helped children access their right to play during times of conflict and crisis but it is currently only available in English and Ukrainian.

With rising need in Palestine and other Arabic-speaking regions, frontline workers are asking for tools they can understand and use immediately to support children in need. Feedback from groups like Playgrounds for Palestine UK shows a clear demand: aid workers need this toolkit in Arabic to support children living through unimaginable circumstances to access their right to play.

Why is this important?

In times of war, displacement, and disaster, play often disappears from the list of priorities. But for children, play is not a luxury, it is a lifeline. It helps them process trauma, express emotions, and reclaim a sense of normality.

The Play in Crisis Toolkit supports communities and workers to protect the child's right to play, even in the harshest of conditions. By translating it into Arabic, we can equip those on the ground with tools to restore hope, healing, and humanity and most of all, play back into childhoods which are under occupation and in conflict zones.

How will the money raised be used?

Funds raised will directly cover the translation cost of the toolkit into Arabic, as well as the design and formatting of the resource in PDF format so it’s easy to use in the field. In order to do this, we need to raised a total of £3200.

If we exceed our target, additional funds will support wider dissemination and the printing of hard copies, ensuring this resource reaches the people who need it most.
