Places4Pollinators aim to fund and create wildflower areas supporting insect pollinators and other wildlife in North Cornwall.
We hope to see more abundant Cornish wildflower habitats, where pollinating insects have the ability to access the resources they need in order to thrive.
We want to raise awareness of the importance of pollinators and their habitats. We aim to do this through the restoration of wildflower-rich grassland in Cornwall, tackling current declines in numbers and increasing pollinator visitation.

Pollinating insects, such as bees, beetles, butterflies and moths, are fundamentally linked to the maintenance of healthy ecosystems, which sustain all living organisms globally. They do this by carrying pollen from one flower to another, fertilising and beginning the growth of plants. However, over the past 50 years, more than half of the UK's studied pollinator species have experienced significant declines.
Cornwall is home to rare wild pollinating species, including the recently discovered large scabious mining bee, which require specific habitats and floral resources. It is important to protect and preserve these unique species so we can safeguard their crucial services for the future.

By donating to Places4Pollinators you are helping to restore and create vital wildflower-rich habitats, to support the recovery of local pollinators. All money raised will be directly used for the materials needed to establish these areas. We aim to create exclusive environments where endangered pollinator populations can begin to recover and flourish in Cornwall.

Places4Pollinators has been created by a group of third year BSc Applied Zoology and Conservation students at Newquay University Centre with a passion for the smaller creatures in the world.
As part of our Conservation Project Management module, we are setting out to raise money, in collaboration with Buglife, to restore pollinator habitats in our local area. We believe this will be extremely beneficial for pollinating insects and other important wildlife in Cornwall and hope to create a buzz about wild spaces!
In partnership with Buglife, we have identified specific sites within the Cornwall B-Lines network where we can achieve our vision.
We will plant local and species-specific wildflowers, creating a haven for nature and increasing pollinating insect visitation.

Buglife are the only charity in Europe, dedicated to the conservation of all invertebrates. One aspect of their actions are the B-lines across the United Kingdom.

B-Lines are a series of 'insect super highways' running through our countryside and towns, along which Buglife are restoring and creating a series of wildflower-rich habitat stepping stones. They link existing wildlife areas together, creating a non-restrictive network, like a railway, that will weave across the British landscape. This will provide larger areas of brand new habitat benefiting bees and butterflies - but also a host of other wildlife.

Due to this being an 'All or Nothing' campaign, donations and rewards will only be processed if we meet our target. This means you, as the donator, will receive any reward selected once the target is met in the new year.
It is important to note, if a reward is selected, personal details will be shared with Buglife to process the items. Details will not be shared elsewhere.
