We are a new junior cricket club. Our first year has been a bit de-railed by Covid-19. We want to get a pitch as we don’t have one! Help!

*** Our Video has been updated to include messages of support from cricketing legends David Gower and Mark Butcher! ***
Dunblane Cricket Club? Don’t you all play tennis?
A lot of us have been inspired by the Murray brothers. But we shouldn’t be labelled a one sport town! We also play other sports such as football, golf and now cricket.
Why only now? Cricket has been in Scotland for centuries?
There was a Dunblane Cricket Club formed in 1866. But, sometime between then and now we seem to have lost our club and misplaced our pitch.
Misplaced your pitch! That’s a bit embarrassing?
It is a bit.
Especially as only a year ago, a group of children were sent to try cricket at an after-school club by their parents. These children promptly excelled at cricket and even won a few matches. Today, as their parents still try to understand the laws of the game, they survive by playing wherever is available at the time. If you have some spare cash, if you’d like to help us buy a cricket pitch, and if you know how to donate using technology, maybe you can support the Dunblane Cricket Club.
Did you just copy the opening voiceover sequence from the A Team there?
No idea what you’re talking about.
Hmmm. So what do you want from me?
We’ve managed to beg, borrow or steal cricket equipment to use….
You’ve stolen cricket equipment!?!
No! It’s a turn of phrase meaning we are doing all that is necessary. For the record, we definitely did not steal anything.
….but as we mentioned we’re missing one very important component - a cricket pitch.
So, we have setup a crowdfunding project called #PitchInForaPitch. Where lovers (and non-lovers) of cricket can pitch in money to allow us to purchase and install an artificial cricket pitch.
#PitchInForaPitch? That is genius! Are you in marketing?
Thanks! No, it’s my first attempt at this sort of thing.
You should consider a career change. Where would this pitch be?
There are two venues in Dunblane that have been proposed to install a cricket pitch, Laighills park or Dunblane High School playing field. Either would be ideal.
Sounds great! The only thing that is putting me off is the thought of donating money to a group of middle aged men with handlebar moustaches.
Don’t worry! Cricket has really transformed over the years. We are only playing junior cricket and our players are young, hip and cool (see video). Also, one of our key goals is parity in participation between females and males.
Wow, they all look awesome! But, you’re looking for a lot of money during Covid-19?
Yes it is a lot of money, and we're not asking you for all of it. It will cost approximately £7,500. We had already raised £500 before the lock down and have applied to other funding initiatives.
From what we can see, this is one of the most ambitious community crowdfunds attempted in the Stirling district. Add in a worldwide pandemic and we would understand if people thought we were crazy to run a crowdfund at this time. However, we know there is a lot of interest from children to play cricket in Dunblane (we were up to 20 just prior to lock down) so we have decided to start our campaign at the earliest opportunity to ensure that we can pick up the momentum that we had already started. This isn’t just a donation, it’s an investment in the establishment of a club for future generations.
That makes a lot of sense. I’m going to contribute right now!
That is brilliant news. Please donate what you can afford. If everyone in Dunblane donated £1 we would easily exceed our target.
However, one thing before I do. Do you promise not to misplace this pitch?
We promise!
