We are a community driven Table Tennis Club with 50 members but only own 5 tables. We need a few more!
We are aiming to raise funds to buy approximately 8 Table Tennis Tables. Currently we are in possession of 5 tables that are worn and significantly damaged. New tables will allow us to provide fantastic playing conditions in what we hope will be a larger venue than our current one. It will also result in a dramatic increase in membership as we will be able to accommodate more players with more tables. Our membership currently stands at over 50 players from diverse backgrounds. We have 3 wheelchair users, all ages and cultural backgrounds. Unfortunately because we don't have a larger venue and more tables, we are very limited. We are currently exploring larger venues in the local area. The club is run by a small group of passionate volunteers. We have no employees and are a not for profit, community/volunteer organisation. We've been operational for just over a year now, membership and demand is stronger than what we can currently provide. We therefore anticipate our club being a permanent fixture in the local area, hopefully for many years to come.
In its very short existence the club has managed to build a large and loyal membership base. We saw an opportunity to provide a table tennis facility in our local area, different to others in close proximity. We decided to focus on a relaxed and social environment for people to play table tennis. We see ourselves as more of a social club with the emphasis on providing a hub for mainly adults in order to connect and engage with others in their community, all whilst playing a game that binds them all. The club encourages physical activity and human connection, therefore improving all aspects of health and well being. Most of our members find the club is a crucial social tool to keep them connected with their community in a relaxed environment.
Most of our members reside in the local area. Our current venue is very central and is easily accessible, with accessible facilities and a car park. We believe that providing a setting for people to play table tennis without what can be perceived as a pressurised, coaching environment, can be a powerful tool to give people some sense of interaction and community togetherness. In an increasingly polarised and isolated society we believe it is paramount that we can provide something that is more than just a sports club, but actually a tool for social intergration and community strength. Many of our members have had a lot of life experience and the club has become a catalyst for almost a type of sport therapy. It's not just about the sport but something much more therapeutic we are providing. The physical and mental benefits of playing sport in a relaxed group setting are abundant and absolutely necessary in our current society.
Please can you help by throwing a few pounds into the pot to help us reach our fundraising target. We can then purchase the additional tables and therefore grow Pingsters Table Tennis Club, in turn giving more people the opportunity to play this beautiful game.
