We are raising funds to mount a production Martin McDonagh's The Pillowman at The Old Fire Station, Oxford, in September 2026.
Shight Productions are a new theatre company based in Oxfordshire, created by actor and sound designer Eloise Sheffield, and musician and producer Dan Knight. The idea came about when they realised that by combining their surnames, they could produce a mildly amusing pun and things quickly got out of hand. They now find themselves with a contract for a theatre booking to sign, and a very palpable feeling of, 'oh blimey, we're really doing this'.
Shight's first venture is Martin McDonagh's dark comedy, The Pillowman. Set in a police state, a writer is bought in for questioning by two detectives (of questionable moral character) in connection with a series of gruesome murders.
This play will be performed at the Old Fire Station in Oxford, where Dan and Eloise both happen to work. Their goal is to exploit their particular knowledge of the venue's infrastructure to stage a play on a scale of technical ambition never before seen there. Regular patrons of the OFS can expect to see familiar faces among the cast and crew, but not a familiar stage.
With such an ambitious production design, comes a need for money to realise it. Shight are therefore asking for donations towards a physical production budget so they can get their ideas out of their sketchbook and into the theatre. All funds raised will go towards the up-front costs of the production, including the theatre deposit, the license for the play and the materials required for scenic fabrication.
Thanks!
