Pillock: Edinburgh Fringe 2024

Pillock has ADHD. His brain works faster than his bowel when he's had a Babybel. And he's lactose intolerant. He’s trying to keep his head above water, but he's drowning in loneliness, hook-up culture and medical role plays. He feels stagnant and it's going to take more than a yoga class to help. But, when he meets Eugene everything changes. His shot at the sort of love people write poems about. But will he be Mr Right, Mr Right Now or even Mr Wrong? Pillock wants to trust his gut, but his can't even handle a Muller Corner.

Pillock is a one man show written and performed by Cumbrian, Jordan Tweddle, (BBC, ITV, National Theatre Studio, Theatre by the Lake). Written from his own experiences with ADHD, the challenges and opportunities of gay dating and the vulnerability of the acting industry. The play will be directed by award-winning director Scott Le Crass, with movement direction from Kieran Sheehan, produced by Knock & Nash Productions. The play will be running from the 1st - 25th of August 2024 at Assembly Rooms at 18:25 at this years Edinburgh Fringe with relaxed performances on the 8th and 15th of August. 

Going to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival is now more expensive than it ever has been before. The accommodation crisis is worse than ever (The Stage) and the festival was described by The Guardian as “too long, too expensive and too gruelling”. Despite this, we really feel that Pillock has a place at this year's festival. We believe the show is perfectly suited to an Edinburgh Fringe audience, and that this is the ideal place to kickstart the show's life before ambitions of a nationwide tour.

We're crowdfunding as many typical arts funders will not support Edinburgh Fringe runs, meaning money to support shows is scarce. This £6,000 is not our whole budget but it will provide us with cashflow and the ability to further fundraise through sponsorship and match funding. Contributions will go directly towards covering venue and registration costs, publicity, accommodation, travel, set and sound design, making our show more accessible and assist in covering the wages of our all queer-creative team.

Jordan Tweddle, Actor and Writer

Jordan is an award-winning Actor, Director and Writer. He trained at the Manchester School of Theatre, and since graduating has worked across television, film and theatre. He has recently completed filming for ITV'S Coronation Street. His acting Credits Include: Steel (National Theatre Studio), BBC's First Homosexual, Wings (Theatre by the Lake), Don't Blame Jack (Winner: Best Actor, Top Indie Film Awards and Monkey Bread Tree Film Awards), Boys on Film: 20 (Peccadillo Pictures), No Traveller Returns (Iron Pier Films), Frozen (Edinburgh Fringe and UK Tour), and Canopy of Stars (Tristan Bates Theatre).

Scott Le Crass, Director

Scott was born in Bristol, grew up in Birmingham, trained as an actor at Arts Ed and was a director on the Birmingham Rep’s first Foundry Programme. In 2022, he completed the National Theatre Director’s Course. Scott directed the Off Com award winning digital revival of Rose by Martin Sherman starring Maureen Lipman (Hope Mill Theatre/Sky Arts/Broadway HD). Last year he was nominated for Best Creative West End Debut at The Stage Awards for his production of Rose. In 2022, he received an Off West End and Broadway World nomination for Best Director for Rose. Last year Rose won an Off West End award for Best Solo Performance.  Credits include: Director- Jab (Finborough Theatre), Cut The Crap starring Sharon Osbourne (West End), A Christmas Carol (Brewhouse, Taunton), Rose (West End), Toxic (HOME, Manchester), Buff (Edinburgh Fringe/Plymouth Theatre Royal), Rose (Hope Mill Theatre/Park Theatre), Elmer (UK and International Tour/Sell A Door), Sid (Arts Theatre and UK Tour), Country Music (Omnibus Theatre), The Witches (Watford Palace), Alice in Wonderland (Old, Rep, Birmingham). Last year, Scott's Vault Festival production's of Buff and Thirsty received an Off Fest nomination. In 2020, Scott’s revival production of Simon Stephen’s, Country Music won an Off West End award in 2020.

Kieran Sheehan, Movement Director

Kieran has most recently worked as a movement director at NTS and Theatre by the Lake. He is the Collaborative Director of Silent Uproar and Co-Director of Everyone Here. This year he is the Artist in Residence at the International Conference of Possibility Studies at Cambridge University.
