Aim

Help our DIY grassroots music and arts venue recover from a flood that destroyed equipment, and cost us thousands due to having to close.

*** UPDATE - The Great (awful) Halloween Flood! ***

On Friday 31st October, there was a flash flood in Deptford, and we found ourselves with water pouring in through the lighting fixtures, damaging our electrics and sound system.

We have been forced to close for one of the busiest weekends of the year, losing thousands of pounds in income, and experiencing thousands of pounds of damage to a resident sound system.

We are asking all our allies for support as we try and reignite the crowdfunder to reflect the new expensive work that needs to take place, and the gear we need to replace.

Thank you in advance for your support so far, and your support going forward. If you have any ideas with getting media attention, or fundraising - please get in touch on

WHATS THE STORY

In 2023 despite a huge amount of support from the community, grassroots venue Matchstick Piehouse closed its doors. We all thought this would be the end, but we are THRILLED to announce that, after a year of hard work behind the scenes, the much loved railway arch has officially been open as Piehouse Workers Co-op for 6 months - and has hosted over 100 events!

Piehouse Workers Co-op is a workers co-operative made up of 4 women and non binary people, and we are working hard to bring you a proudly queer, wheelchair accessible, anticapitalist venue for all your live music, cabaret, art and community needs. So many of you have supported us so far, and now we are entering the second wave of getting the venue up to scratch!

We have four main areas of spending we want to fundraise for.

KITCHEN

Our kitchen desperately needs some TLC. It was installed 10 years ago entirely by volunteers, and we would like to bring it up to scratch. We have also heard your cries for the return of mash + gravy, but we need the correct equiptment to get this going. We also want to become a more ecofriendly venue, and so desperately want to get some hard plastic reusable cups.

BATHROOMS

Our bathrooms desperately need some attention and work. We want to lose none of the existing Piehouse energy, but gain some cleanliness + sustainability.

MUSIC EQUIPMENT

A lot of our gear was inherited, lent, begged, borrowed (but never stolen..). We want to make sure every artist who plays at this venue feels like their work is well represented, which means buying some new equipment.

VAT BILL

Did you know that when we buy our stock we pay 20% vat, but we are then made to pay 20% vat again on every pint? This VAT bill is one of the reasons tons of venues across London close, and we wont be another one!

This project and venue only exists because of the unbelievable hard work from ALL of our community, the gratitude we feel is indescribable. We hope that by fundraising this extra cash, we can step up and create a venue as glorious as the people that surround it.
