Aim

To raise £5000 towards replacing three upright pianos for the music department at Coombe Girls' School.

Coombe Girls' School Music department is looking to raise £5000 towards replacing two upright pianos.

We have been fortunate to raise £10,000 for phase 1 of the piano restoration fund and have replaced three pianos. We are now looking to phase two of the project to raise an additional amount of £5000.

Replacing the pianos will  prove an invaluable resource throughout curriculum music lessons. A significant number of  students will be given the opportunity to practise on a piano rather than a keyboard on a rotation basis throughout keyboard schemes of work in Year 7, 8 and 9. Students will be able to develop their technique on weighted keys and learn about the functions of the pedals. This will also enable KS3 students to develop their practical music skills and explore composition within lessons, KS4 & 5 students will use these keyboards on a daily basis to workshop composition ideas, develop keyboard facility and music theory knowledge, and create and develop their compositions.

Students in KS4 and KS5 will benefit from individual practice and also when preparing for GCSE and A Level recitals they can use the pianos to either record solo or ensemble performances or even practise for graded exams. Students can also compose at the pianos and workshop ideas with other instrumentalists.

Students in the school community also have the opportunity to book practice rooms during break times, lunchtimes and after school. More often than not, all practice rooms are booked out each day with 10 students using the pianos in their spare time each day. The pianos will also be used for rehearsals for end of term assemblies, annual whole school production and concerts throughout the academic year.

In addition, the music department has a letting with Kingston Music Service which takes place every Saturday and students outside the school community have individual lessons on pianos. In addition, KMS tutors will be able to accompany students during lessons too. The use of the pianos will be particularly beneficial when preparing for Trinity and ABRSM graded examinations.

Every donation, whatever size will help us reach our target.  In return for your donation we will display your name as a piano key on our major crowdfunding display in the music department.

A massive thank you in advance and we look forward to welcoming you to music events at Coombe Girls; School.
