We wish to raise money to pay the moving and delivery costs for a baby grand piano donation to be delivered to streetreads library
Streetreads Library in Edinburgh opened in August 2021. It came about when a woman called Rachel Cowan began handing out books to people experiencing homelessness in Edinburgh. As the demand for this service grew, Rachel approached Simon Community Scotland for support to help establish a Streetreads Library for people experiencing homelessness. People within the homeless community in Edinburgh can visit the library and take out books without needing to show ID or return the books. This is a safe, welcoming space to read, relax, and benefit from a wide range of support.
- Stories really do connect us - the library has created spaces to bring in authors and storytellers and to create stories.
- Streetreads run classes and events helping people connect with their world, where people can listen, take part and create their own stories.
- It runs digital inclusion classes, creative writing workshops, harm reduction information events, art therapy groups and been visited by barbers and vets.
- It provide reading glasses to those who need them.
- It offers EasyRead books, graphic novels and books in a variety of languages.
- And perhaps most importantly - it offers a safe, peaceful and warm place for a chat, or for time to relax and escape.
Streetreads library has just found a new home in Edinburgh and will open soon.

Very kind friends of mine, who wish to remain anonymous, have donated their beautiful and much loved baby grand piano to Streetreads library for anyone using the space to use and love as much as they have.
We would like to raise the approximately £400 is will cost to deliver this piano from their home some distance away from Edinburgh. Any extra raised will be donated to Streetreads.

This project successfully funded on 18th September 2025
