Always on

This project successfully funded on 30th July 2020, you can still support them with a donation.

Aim: Coronavirus has decimated our advertising revenue and we need your support so we can continue running our community and youth projects.

We are Phoenix FM and we are the only independent radio station Calderdale, West Yorkshire. We have been there for our community for over 13 years, showcasing local artists, fundraising for local charities, promoting local businesses and keeping the whole of Calderdale connected. Now we are asking our community to be there for us.

The Problem

Due to coronavirus our advertising revenue has been decimated, and along with other loss of income, we are concerned about the long term impact this could have on our station.

We have also just received the devastating news that we have been rejected for an emergency grant from OfCom, leaving us no option but to raise the money ourselves.

We still have to pay rent, bills and licence fees. Our monthly outgoings are still the same, even in lockdown. We are so much more than "just a radio station" and we want to ensure we can continue running our youth and community projects, when this is all over. So we are asking for your help!

Why should you support us?

Did we mention we are the only independent radio station in Calderdale? Plus we're so much more than that!

We are a unique, not-for-profit community organisation that is trying to redefine who is "able" to do radio and which voices are "allowed". We work closely with special needs schools and we give people with disabilities the chance to have their own radio show.

We also:

  • Promote local bands and artists
  • Give radio shows to other local charities and organisations (e.g. Overgate Hospice and Voluntary Action Calderdale)
  • Train disadvantaged young people in radio broadcasting
  • Take placement students from colleges, schools and universities
  • Visit care homes and broadcast with the elderly and vulnerable adults
  • Make AWARD WINNING board games to help local people suffering from dementia

We have won the National Community Radio Awards TWICE, won "Breakthrough of the Year" at the Calderdale Community Spirit Awards 2019 and have been awarded the Disability Confident Title through the Department of Work and Pensions.

How can you get involved?

Check out our awesome rewards and please pledge what you can. Any donation will be greatly appreciated and go towards keeping our station on air. Any additional money raised will go towards our youth projects, so we can help even more local young people.

We ask project owners to honour their rewards wherever possible but please note that all pledges are donations and there is no guarantee that you will receive any rewards from the project owner. Please see Crowdfunder's Terms of Use for more information regarding rewards for pledges.
