My sister-in-law, David's older sister, died in Accra on 21st April. She was 47. Philo had undiagnosed diabetes. She went into a coma on Saturday 20th April caused by diabetic ketoacidosis and passed away the next day.
It's a cliché to say that Philo was much-loved and will be missed - but there it is. She was fun, kind and caring - her death leaves an enormous hole in the lives of many and her children are devastated.
Philo's teenage daughters Kezia and Pam are being cared for by a neighbour. Philo's son Sam is with us in London, where he works in a care home.
None of her children have financial means to cover funeral costs and the girls have no independent means of support in Ghana.
We are exploring how the girls can be cared for on a permanent basis, including whether they can join Sam in the UK.
We are fundraising to support:
- Sam's travel to Ghana to attend his mum's funeral and spend time with his sisters
- Kezia and Pam's living costs
- Finding a permanent solution for Kezia and Pam's care
- In time, counselling for the three children
David and I are covering costs of the funeral, Philo's medical bill and associated costs like mortuary fees.
We're extremely grateful for any support you can offer.
