The children and parents of St Mary’s Primary School, Dunblane are continuing to raise funds to refurbish Millrow Play Park following a very successful first wave of fundraising where we were successful in raising funds to replace four pieces of play equipment. The funds raised from our initial fundraising will be used to purchase an inclusive roundabout, swing seat and seesaw; and piece of toddler play equipment.
We are now looking to undertake an additional round of fundraising to add further enhancements to the park - a bench or two for parents and carers, another small picnic table and some play panels.
We would also like to replace the existing swing frame (giving greater opportunity to make the park inclusive, maximising the space through replacing all the equipment at the same time). We have approached Clackmannanshire and Stirling Environment Trust (CSET) who have kindly confirmed that the replacement of the existing swing frame can been included in the grant award approved earlier this year. This significantly reduces what we need to raise.
Ideally the park would also be leveled when the work is undertaken and we are currently exploring if that could be an option.
The upgrade of the aged playpark will bring multiple benefits to the Dunblane community and the children of St Mary’s Primary School:
- Enhance the functionality and use of the park – a fun place to spend time on a range of play equipment,
- Offer opportunities for social contact among children and families,
- Reduce current issues with vandalism/damage linked to the tired looking equipment,
- Increase footfall in the High Street and business for our local cafes and shops,
- Provide an inclusive area to play for the children of Dunblane, and the wider Stirling Community (the availability of nearby parking, proximity to Dunblane Train Station and paths leading into Millrow Park make it a ideal spot for inclusive play),
- Provide a great opportunity for the children of St Mary’s Primary School to learn about community engagement and the importance of supporting their local community (responsible citizens).
