Support me through this semester of my medical degree in Kampala International University Uganda

My name is Akena Reagan Peter.. A pioneer member of butterfly project (cohort 2-Butterfly North), a project I joined 9 years ago. As I child growing up in the Kony war I was traumatised and with a single struggling mother, I heard dreams but I didn’t know whether those dreams might come true, at least not until I was recruited onto the Butterfly Project.
As a child I always had love and passion for science especially biology science and for all of my life for as much as I can remember I’ve always wanted to save life. Coming from a community which is inflicted with so much with communicable diseases and tropical neglected diseases inspired me to become part of those trying to fight this which one of the leading causes is lack of skilled professionals can be cubbed down by more people like me.
Malaria still continues to be one of leading causes of death for both paediatric and adults. It’s because of this that’s why I decided to pursue a course (Bachelor of clinical medicine and community health at Kampala International University western campus in Western Uganda) which I joined in August 2017. The course is for 4 and half years ie 9 semesters.. So far so good with the help of good people I’ve managed to have a successful four semesters now with just five remaining until I graduate.
Aside from my passion, I’ve done so many interesting things with the Butterfly Project over the last 9 years of which I would like to mention a few; I’ve been lucky enough to work a group of young talented and gifted Uganda kids 8 years ago on a newsletter project in which we would identity issues/local stories and write about it. I’ve also been able to work on a ICT (information, communication and technology) related project which was dubbed ICT for Change project where I would engage young kids and acquaint them which some basic knowledge in computer science because the world is heading to a computer era of which things would be hard if you are without knowledge of how to operate a computer.
My other more recent interest is on “CLIMATE” This is now the major global issue which is so vital much as so many people do not believe in it. Global warming is at its height and it’s all because of stubbornness and ignorance about certain impacts of how we use our environment I’d like to start a campaign as this is now a global issue. ( an article from welovetheearth.org says that we have about 12 years to turn things around or else the damage will be irreparable!)
Any support rendered toward this course would be of great impact to those living in Uganda because you will not only support me but a good number of people who are in need of the service I will be able to offer.
I was lucky enough to win a bursary towards my studies at Kampala International University, through good grades at A level. This meant that the very expensive medical doctor course was reduced in price by 40%. However, it is still a significant figure for me to find, as a 20 year old from a village environment. I have been lucky enough to have some support towards the tuition fees, but there is still a balance of £250 to find (at current exchange rates) for this term’s fees. Can you help me reach this target? If so, please contact CYEN at [email protected] – you can donate directly at this link. After this semester, I will have two years remaining to complete the course.
