We are building a permaculture training network in East Africa. Linking farmers in Uganda, Kenya and Wales in mutual support.
A Permaculture course covers an internationally recognised curriculum that embraces an understanding of ecology, economics and people. Those completing the course receive a certificate authenticated by the Permacultre Assocaition of Britian. The course is packed with practical and experienced based ideas an insights.
Sector39 is a group of UK based permaculture teachers who are working closely with Dolen Ffermio, a Uganda/ Wales farmers’ link charity who have been working in Eastern Uganda for 20 years.
Over the next two years we plan to support a group of Ugandan small farmers to train in permaculture design, so that ultimately they will be able to run and certificate their own courses. We visited the Eastern Uganda region in 2014 organised by our Ugandan project partners and we have been invited to return to work with them on this project. The second phase of this project we hope will be supported by the Welsh Assembly's Africa/ Cyrmru programme but this initial phase is entirely self funded by Sector39 and by students attending the course.
We hope to raise £800 (min) - £1,600 towards the cost of the free places we are offering to Ugandan and Kenyan course participants.
We have identified the people concerned, those who will be the project beneficiaries and they are really excited by the possibilites of this collaboration. These people are community leaders in schools and farm projects in both Uganda and Kenya and will be sharing the knowledge and experience gained from this course with many other people in their respective communites.
