Aim

Help me make my dream of publishing my first story-book a reality

My name is Mark and I am a poet from Pembrokeshire, West Wales.

I have written a short story in poem-form called 'Peregrine and the Mermaid'.

The story, my first ever published work, is based on an old Pembrokeshire legend of Peregrine, a fisherman who one day catches a mermaid in his net. At first Peregrine decides to selfishly keep the mermaid and sell her along with the rest of his catch...but he changes his mind and grants her back her freedom. The mermaid in return for Peregrine sparing her life, promises to one day save his - which she does!

In real-life, in St Dogmaels - a small Pembrokeshire town, stands a wooden statue of Peregrine's Mermaid...and my short story serves to remind people of that moral tale and breathe new-life into the wonderful characters within it.

The story has been written as a poem for all ages and I have collaborated with an incredible artist who is illustrating the story and placing it in a magical seascape inspired by my Pembrokeshire home.

The illustration and publishing costs are £4000. With these finances in place I can release my story to the world!

This entire project, an enormous labour of love, is not intended as a personal money-maker and serves more as a burning desire in me to leave a legacy in the form of a published work - and in these modern times of superficial, throw-away content which threatens human creativity, freedom of thought and pure use of language, I deem my efforts to produce the book as a gentle act of rebellion.

To supplement this Crowdfunding element I will be touring local towns and villages to share public readings of the story and selling limited edition prints of the book's artwork to help me reach my goal.

You can simply 'Donate' directly to this campaign on this page....or a number of rewards are available below to encourage people to support my dream in other ways.

In advance of these words and this project's importance to me resonating with you - Thank you! You will be a vital part of something so very dear to me.

Best wishes,

Mark
