People & Gardens - working with local people with mental health issues , developing their skills and confidence through horticulture.

People & Gardens was set up to enable people with learning disabilities or emotional impairments to be able to develop as individuals, to learn work and social skills and to have equality of choice and opportunity in the workplace. We are a vegetable market garden scheme based at Watering Lane Nursery, Pentewan, St Austell. We are non profit making with all monies invested back into the scheme.
"We believe gardening can help you achieve a sense of well-being, satisfaction and self worth. We believe that gardening can help you feel good about yourself. "
The project is run by people whose lives have been affected by physical and emotional difficulties. It provides them with training to develop practical skills and self belief. 27 local people attend the scheme, all with learning disabilities or emotional impairments, supported by 9 regular volunteers. They are involved in the full cycle of growing and selling vegetables, from sowing seeds to packing the bags for over 80 local customers.
We need to raise money to buy a fruit cage. This will enable us to grow more fruit such as strawberries, raspberries and redcurrants. The cage is designed so that all of our participants can easily access the area and get involved, learning new skills and growing new produce for local businesses we support and our local veg bag customers. We hope to purchase this in the spring ready for the summer growing season.
We would like to thank the following businesses for supporting our campaign and donating rewards:
