Penny Field Memorial Garden is being built to remember the children that have passed whilst attending Penny Field School
The story so far ….
Penny Field School is a school like no other. Our students face many challenges on a daily basis and include children diagnosed with PMLD, SEND and/or Complex Needs. Sadly, in the last four months we have lost five of our children through life limiting illnesses and this is something that we face unfortunately all too often.
We have been very fortunate to secure a National Lottery Community Fund Grant for £10,000 to create a beautiful remembrance garden for our children and families to reflect and remember their loved ones. However, unfortunately due to the uncertain times in which we live and the increase in the cost of living, the materials for which we were originally quoted have substantially increased. We therefore need to raise an additional £5,000 to create a dream garden for our children and their families.

How the garden has been designed
The garden has been designed through collaboration and consultation with our children, staff and families. The design is fully accessible for wheelchair users and consideration has also been given to the children that may be accessing the site through hospital beds and other pieces of walking apparatus. We have been mindful to consider all sense stimulations within the garden as well, as we are very aware that not all our visitors will have all five senses fully functioning.
The garden will contain beautiful meandering accessible footpaths through wildflowers and herbs to stimulate the senses. It will also have three quiet reflection pools where trickling water will flow surrounded by beautiful pebbles in memory of those that have passed but will never be forgotten.
We will also have a group seating area which can be used for families and small groups to gather in quiet reflection. Our garden will also be adorned with a beautiful array of colour and sound to stimulate our visitors that are not able to see or hear to ensure we are inclusive to all.

How can you help?
You could make a donation today! Why not offer your time or skills if you are trained in landscaping? You could hold an event on our behalf and donate the funds to our cause. You may work for an organisation that is able to donate materials.
