Penistone Cricket Club New Pavilion

Aim

Penistone CC urgently require a new pavilion as the current one is in disrepair and is no longer fit for purpose.

Who are we?

Penistone Cricket Club are raising funds to replace our 55 year old pavilion to provide a community asset for the cricket club and wider community use.

The club was founded in 1867 and today we are a proud cricket club that is run totally by volunteers. We have teams in all age groups - under 9's, under 11's, under 13's, under 15's and under 17's and 2 senior sides. We also run the ECB initiatives, All Stars for 5 to 8 year olds and Dynamos for 8 to 11 year olds.

Community impact

Our ever increasing numbers of players and families means our tired pavilion is no longer fit for purpose. We really want to provide a pavilion that allows a much larger function room to fit everyone in for cricket matches, social events, meetings and for wider sports use and for the benefit of the whole community.

Not only is our ground used by Penistone Cricket Club, but we also allow Penistone Grammar School to use it for games. Local Community groups such as The Round Table, Scouts, Cubs, Beavers use our facilities. County representative sides have also benefitted from using our facilities.

Why are we crowdfunding?

The pavilion has served us well for the past 55 years and we are hoping to rebuild a brand new pavilion to serve the community of Penistone for another 50+ years. For a number of years now we have found ourselves having to patch things up within areas of the pavilion. For example before the start of last season we discovered dry rot and had to replace the whole of the pavilion floor. Not what you want 4 weeks before the start of the new season!!!!!We have had to replace showers. The changing rooms are in a terrible state and are very small. 

Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games

Sport England's Places and Spaces fund was boosted by £ 7 million as it goes nationwide to help communities across England benefit from the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games.

The extra National lottery funding means that Community Organisations can make facility improvements to help develop places and spaces wanting to use Birmingham 2022 as a catalyst to improve community sport and physical activity.

If Penistone CC was to be successful in their bid to match funding our project by Sport England it would mean that in our new pavilion we would have our first ever changing room for female cricketers. We would also have a changing room for umpires. Umpires currently get changed in a garden shed.

We are very proud to have managed to fundraise through the club holding social events, BBQ's, race nights and fun days and have raised about a quarter of the total amount we require to have the new pavilion we dream about. Our fundraising came to halt when Covid 19 struck so we missed out from 2 years of cricket and raising vital funds for our rebuild of the pavilion. 

How we’ll spend the money raised

We certainly promise that all the money raised will be used to build our new pavilion as outlined in the draft plans we have, as shown below

How you can play your part

There are four simple ways to help us reach our target, and make this project a reality.
