Who are we?

Penclawdd AFC is a local football club based in South Wales that has served the local community for over 50 years.  Picture 17, PictureOur committee is made up of men and women from both the senior and junior sections.  Eight of our junior coaches are also senior players.  We are truly One Club.

In that time, Penclawdd AFC has promoted itself as an inclusive, community club with growing numbers of players, supporters and volunteers who participate and support our senior and junior male and female teams.

The Senior Men’s 1st team compete in the Swansea Senior League Premier Division and have recently won the Swansea Open Cup to ensure the club has won silverware for each of the last 3 years. The male Reserve team play in the Swansea Senior League Reserves Division 1 and our newly formed 3rd team plays in the Swansea Senior League Reserves Division 3. The 3rd team provides an opportunity for the growing number of players stepping up from Junior football to make the transition into the Senior team alongside some more experienced players / parents, further promoting the inclusive, family ethos within our club.

Our Senior Ladies’ 1st team compete in the SWWGL Combination Premier league and hosted Cardiff City Ladies in the Welsh Cup earlier this season, putting up an excellent performance to go ahead twice against opposition who had played in the Champions League the month before. This was in front of a packed-out Dan y Graig with players and supporters associated with all other age groups and teams there to cheer on our village.

The Senior Men’s team aim to achieve Macron league status, and the Senior Ladies team are also striving to achieve Adran league status in the next 3 years. This is central to this funding bid to ensure facilities at Dan y Graig meet the league requirements.

In addition to this, the club also has a highly successful junior section with teams from our minis who begin at the age of 3 up to Under 16s.

We pride ourselves on our inclusive ethos, providing opportunities to all.

Why are we crowdfunding?

This season the club has secured funding to renovate the derelict old changing rooms into a usable supporters space to serve teas / coffees and provide shelter during inclement weather. This work has been ongoing through the summer by volunteers and tradespersons associated with the club and will have a positive impact on the community during match days next season.

Moving forward, Penclawdd AFC are hoping to prepare Dan Y Graig for the future requirements needed for participation in the Macron and Adran leagues.

This will require barrier fencing around the perimeter of the pitch, relocation of one of the team dugouts so they are positioned side by side and also the installation of some temporary seating to support accessibility to watch matches pitch side for home and away supporters of all ages.

Why the need for crowdfunding?

As a growing club with many additional teams in recent years, significant club investment has been needed to train new coaches, purchase new equipment and team kits, register with leagues and enter all relevant competitions. Investment has also been needed to purchase new changing rooms at Dan Y Graig and the club has been hit with rising electricity costs / increasing costs of hiring all weather facilities through winter months due to no available all-weather surface within our club.

Club fundraising events help generate income to support teams of all ages but are insufficient to move the club forward at the current rate of growth of players / teams and to enable all teams to reach their full potential.

How we’ll spend the money raised

Penclawdd AFC requires support from Crowdfunding to achieve our aim of ensuring Dan Y Graig meets the requirements for Macron and Adran league status should our Senior Male / Female teams achieve this goal in the future. Achieving this status will also ensure Penclawdd AFC continues to attract players of all ages and provides an incentive to all players to strive to achieve their full potential at Penclawdd AFC.

Barrier fencing will cost approximately £13,000 and installing a 2nd dugout on one side of the pitch and a small number of temporary seats on home and away side to support accessibility will cost an additional £3,000.

If successful in exceeding our target, we would like to purchase additional equipment to benefit the whole club such as cameras to record training sessions and matches and also enable Penclawdd AFC to stream games live to those unable to attend to widen our support network. This equipment will also support all coaches of Penclawdd AFC with analysis of training sessions and matches to impact positively on future games.

Across our junior ages, significant investment is needed on an annual basis to purchase additional playing / training kits and equipment such as footballs / goals / training equipment. Additional funds raised above our target will be invested across the club to ensure all teams benefit.

Community impact

The Club has played an important role since the COVID crisis, providing new and old players with an outlet to improve their fitness, mental health and benefit from the social interaction that was restricted during the pandemic.

The club is heavily involved in supporting local events such as Llanmorlais Carnival, links closely with Penclawdd RFC on village events and fun days and supports local businesses throughout the year with all club events held within the village at the Royal Oak or Penclawdd Rugby Club, both of whom are excellent supporters of Penclawdd AFC.

Our annual junior presentation at Penclawdd RFC is a community celebration of what can be achieved when volunteers and supporters work together.
