Pembroke Boathouse Upgrades

Aim

Build an extension to the Boathouse. Install accessible showers and changing facilities to provide services to more people.

Who are we?

We are a community Interest Company with a mission to provide outdoor education opportunities for all.  We work with most local schools, scout groups, youth groups and sports teams to provide Outdoor Activities,  Water Safety Training and education and employment opportunities.  The number of young people we train increases year on year as we improve our resources, skills and volunteer base. 

Why are we crowdfunding?

We acquired a long term lease on the derelict Pembroke Boathouse in 2025 and since then have restored the existing building.  This has provided us with a classroom and basic toilet facilities.  However, the building is not accessible and children still need to get changed in gazebos that get put up prior to each session. We have acquired planning permission for an extension to store our boats in.  This will allow us to have accessible showers, changing and classroom space where the boats are currently stored.  

This will allow us to train more young people for more of the year in a facility we can use every month of the year. 

How we’ll spend the money raised

The cost of the remaining work is estimated to be £60,000.  £30,000 for the shed and £30,000 for the showers and toilets and remaining works. 

Community impact

As a community interest company, we dont make profits on any of our activities. Should Paddle West Community CIC fold the Scouts will take ownership of all of our assets.  

The building is is used several times a day by different youth organisations. Most local schools use the facilities, as well as the Pupil Referal Unit, Scouts, Cadets and different charities.  It is intended that the facilities are used 7 days a week by as many local organisations as possible.  

We provide routes to employment for young people who struggle to engage with main stream education. We provide courses that offer GCSE equivalents alongside all of the qualifications to work in the outdoor education industry. 

How you can play your part

There are four simple ways to help us reach our target, and make this project a reality.

1. Make a pledge. Don’t delay if you’re going to support us because momentum is key to our success!

2. Spread the word. Share our project on your social media pages and tell the world to get behind us! The more people we reach, the more support we will get.

3. Offer rewards. Get involved if you are a local business by donating things we can offer to our supporters. We will give you a shout out!

4. Fundraise for us. If you want to run your own fundraiser – maybe a sponsored activity or similar – use the 'contact project' button at the top of our page to let us know. Setting up your own page only takes a few minutes and you won’t need any bank details. Just a fun idea!
