We would like to create a growing garden in our PEACE ORCHARD to provide opportunities to grow vegetables and herbs for everyone to enjoy.
Our Peace Orchard growing garden would include a range of self contained planters with seasonal vegetables, herbs, wildflowers and plants that would be attractive to bees and support pollination. It would also be the base for horticultural focussed activities as well as grow and share sessions including advice on the best ways to use our produce and herbs and include preserving and fermenting methods and natural medicinal remedies.
The Peace Orchard is approximately 4 acres and the growing planters will take up a relatively small footprint and be maintained by volunteers in a safe and environmentally friendly way to allow the bio diversity that already exists to flourish. Our aim is to also provide vegetable boxes for communities who use the Coventry social supermarket. Wel will have pick your own, share and swap events to encourage a greater understanding and appreciation of different vegetables, plants and herbs that can be grown in the climate of Middle England.
The Peace Orchard already works with local schools and charities who use our space freely for outdoor learning, exercise and walking in nature and arts and craft activities. We encourage everyone in Coventry to come and see our beautiful space and every year run events such as Art in the Orchard, Apple Day, Earth Bash and this year we are hosting the Eden Project Community Festival. We do not charge anything for the use of our space as we feel it is part of the legacy and vision of our founder Dennis Davison who gave the gift of the Peace Orchard for future generations to enjoy.
We would seek advice from Springboard CIC who are a very well regarded regularly visit the site to exchange knowledge about the site and growing opportunities. The Coventry Park Rangers also help maintain our space and they are interested in the development of this project.
