MAKE SOMEONE'S CHRISTMAS IN 2022
A £15 donation helps to provide a free ticket for a child or adult to attend the production of All New Adventures of Peter Pan in the Main House. The donated tickets will be distributed through local charities to give the gift of theatre to those most in need at Christmas. For many, this will be their first experience at a theatre. We believe that theatre has the power to transform people’s lives.
Charities we're working with this year
Club Wilber - The Wilberforce Trust
The Wilberforce Trust support people with hearing and visual impairments. We’re delighted to have invited children from Club Wilber and their families to an Audio-Described performance of All New Adventures of Peter Pan.
“The Pay It Forward tickets for the York Theatre Royal Pantomime really adds something special to the Club Wilber activities programme. The touch tour and audio described performance will be a piece of magic and something we are unable to replicate ourselves. A big thank you for the kindness shown to anyone paying it forward!” Ellen Harding Activities and Events Manager – The Wilberforce Trust
Bereaved Children Support York
Bereaved Children Support York is a local charity that aims to support bereaved children, young people and their families living in the York area so that they feel better able to cope with the impact of grief on their lives. They do this by running a monthly drop-in session for bereaved children and families, offering one-to-one therapeutic support to those children who need it, hosting a fortnightly group for parents and organising social activities too.
"We love organising social activities, like theatre trips, for the children and young people that access our service as it is a good way for them to form and develop friendships with each other. It’s also good for them to make some positive shared memories too...” - Jo Cole, Founder and Chair of Trustees, Bereaved Children Support York.
PAC-UK
PAC-UK is the country’s largest independent Adoption Support Agency. They understand that adoption is the beginning of a life-long journey, not just for the child, but also for the adoptive/permanent care family and the birth family left behind. Their support extends to all these groups, and includes adults adopted as children who continue to find difficulties arising on their own life journey. They also offer advice to professionals working with these families in different contexts – in particular adoption social workers, school teachers and virtual school staff.
More about how Pay It Forward helps
This campaign is for our spectacular family pantomime, All New Adventures of Peter Pan. This year we have a target of 150 tickets to be distributed to local charities.
All New Adventures of Peter Pan follows on from last year’s pantomime, Cinderella. Critically acclaimed, nominated for two UK Pantomime awards and loved by adults and children a-like, Cinderella was a huge success.
We provided free tickets to vulnerable children and adults through York Inspirational Kids, Theatre for Wellbeing, the Refugee Council, The Kyra Women’s Project, Restore York, Converge and The Snappy Trust.
“Our young people absolutely loved it. One young man said it was ‘the best’ and one of our parents said it was the best panto they had seen in a very long time.” - York Inspirational Kids, 2021.
"When the Kyra 'Open Arms Drama' group attended the York Theatre Royal Panto, as part of Pay It Forward, they had an absolute ball. Not only was this an opportunity for the group to experience a full-scale theatre production, (which for some was their first time!), but they were able to feel festive and have fun in the beautiful York Theatre Royal main house. The members who attended the production spoke fondly of the experience for months after! We were so honoured to have been able to be able to benefit from such a fantastic initiative - Thank you YTR!" - Kyra Women's Project, 2021.
