Raising funds to go on missionary to Nepal with St Mary's Catholic Academy to provide education and support to local communities.
Hello everyone and welcome to our story
Due to Covid this community have missed out for 2 years on our support, so now more than ever we would greatly appreciate any contribution no matter how small.
Team Nepal from St Mary's Catholic Academy will be travelling to Kathmandu in July 2022 to volunteer at the Shubhakamana School in the Valley. This project is special to St Mary's, especially after the tragic earthquake in April 2015.
My son and I have been privileged to have been offered places but in order to fund the trip, we have to raise a total of £4,500.00. However a number of fundraising activities have already been undertaken and between us we have raised over £2,000.00 to date. I hope you feel that you are able to contribute to our additional fundraising.
About our project
Nepal’s infrastructure has always been fragile and following the earthquake their situation has only become graver. The earthquake killed thousands of people, flattened villages and reduced numerous heritage sites to rubble. Since then political infighting has delayed much of the reconstruction of these villages and heritage sites and the people of Nepal continue to rebuild their homes and their surrounding areas but are still very reliant on support from foreign aid and tourism.
This amazing charity project is part of St Mary's vision to help the young people who live in that particular community to aspire to have great futures. The school has incredibly high expectations for all its students and the education it provides is second to none. Our students, teachers and volunteers will work hard to deliver exciting, energetic and stimulating lessons to children as young as 4 up to the age of 16 whilst overcoming the challenge of having a language barrier.
The Team will teach English for a 4 days at Shubhakamana School and the money raised this year will support the school’s foundation - this allows orphaned children as well as those too poor to afford schooling to be able to attend Shubhakamana, help with their uniform, receive their school books and help fund the student’s examinations. This help, which we take for granted, is a lifeline for families in this region.
Thanking you in advance
