The Prince Albert is facing a major financial challenge due to Covid. This record will raise funds to keep them at the heart of local music

We're still collecting donations

On the 7th May 2021 we'd raised £3,103 with 95 supporters in 42 days. But as every pound matters, we're continuing to collect donations from supporters.

For many years, the Prince Albert in Rodborough has championed the local music scene. Everyone from Emily Barker to Euros Childs,  Katy J Pearson to Mik Artistic has played there. The covid crisis has been tough for everyone but has been particularly tough for pubs.

The local musical community, led by Sound Records, want to acknowledge the massive contribution that the Albert makes to local music. Electronic musicians from across the spectrum have contributed tracks to this project free of charge to create a showcase of the Stroud musical scene and to raise funds for the pub.

Stroud punches well above its weight in musical talent. Whether folk, rock, jazz, electronica or hip hop its musical innovators  are united by a love of improvisation, experimentation and collaboration. This record is the first attempt to capture the key sounds of the scene and features acts as diverse as the haunting electronica of Orbury Common, the post-punk jazz of Mermaid Chunky, the etherial cello of Simon McCorry and glitchy hip-hop of Fidel Cutstro. The record will feature a track from Blancmange legend Neil Arthur in his Near Future guise as well as the first ever recorded track by Wooolheads, a collaboration between Sound Records' own Sean Roe and artist Uta Baldauf. Other acts involved are Mahon Sounds, Little Metropolis, Unicorn Ship Explosion and Phonsonic.

The record is limited to just 500 copies and is likely to become a collectors item given the interest in the project. Artwork is by locally respected artist Adam Hinks (Good on Paper) and insert sleeve notes are written by music journalist Rupert Howe. 50 copies will be printed onto random colour vinyl making them even more sought after.
