Help us build knowledge and skills amongst young people to meet the financial challenges of adult life and promoting planning for the future

The Team
Parkhead Citizens Advice Bureau is rooted in the local community and we have been providing a service for the local people in the east end of Glasgow for over 30 years .
The Youth Action Project is delivered by our youth training officer and the young volunteer mentors, the training officer has a background in financial advice and support, and has worked in front line services for Citizen Advice Bureau for over 5 years
Our Volunteers
We have 6 young volunteers who help deliver the workshops, we continually promote and recruit young people to become volunteers , Our volunteers are provided with structured training and support, as well as workplace experience, gaining valuable transferable skills and knowledge.
The Project
The project was created from a need by the young people in our community, to increase and raise awareness of advice services and make young people more aware of their rights and entitlements , but more importantly to provide support with their personal development and employability opportunities.
Our aim is to improve young people’s knowledge and skills around financial literacy and capability, we adopt a peer to peer approach, providing training for young volunteers to help deliver the programme to other young people, we want young people to gain knowledge and skills for them to meet the financial challenges of adult life and planning for the future.
We want to increase our reach and utilise pop up clinics within local neighbourhoods to engage with hard to reach young people and raise awareness of our services and encourage young people to think about volunteering.
Our current volunteer peer mentors have engaged with a total of 683 young people to date.
Post covid we have observed the challenges that young people from our most disadvantaged neighbourhoods are facing, including barriers to engage with services, for example: choices can be limited by cost of activities, location and accessibility to support services.
The financial literacy and capability programme
We aim to recruit and train 10 young people aged 16-25 each year, and train them to help deliver workshops to young people of all ages across the local community,
We will provide them with knowledge and basic life skills on financial literacy and capability.
The training will take place in our training room at Gallowgate and various venues across our neighbourhoods, the content of the programme will cover transitional themes selected by the young people for example: Preparing for work-further education and employment, including key life events: My first Home-My first Car -My first Holiday-My first Bank Account.
The Youth Action Project will deliver learning based workshops across the local community in Youth clubs, Schools, Polmont prison and sports clubs, including community based information events, for example: pop up clinics within shopping centres /sport centres /job centres , local churches and food banks.
Evidenced based approach
Our approach aligns with the financial inclusion strategy for Scotland in meeting the needs of users for financial literacy and capability.
Your Donations
Your donations will help us to continue with our valuable Youth Action Financial education programme , allowing us to recruit, train and reach more young people, the young people will be given the opportunity to access support and advice with opportunities to gain valuable transferable skills and gain accredited qualifications.
