Park Centre Burgess Hill
Bringing people together, building a stronger today for tomorrow.
About Us
Park Centre Burgess Hill is a small charity with eight trustees who are focused and passionate about reopening our beloved town community building. We aim to repair and refurbish Park Centre to create a central youth and community centre that the people of Burgess Hill can be proud of.
Why are we Crowdfunding?
Park Centre sadly needs to have significant repairs made and to be updated so we can reopen to serve the community. To do this we require funding and we welcome support from anyone wishing to help get our young people back into their “home” and create a pivotal resource centre accessible to a diverse array of groups and entities, all working collaboratively to bolster our community.
What work is required for Park Centre?
We aim to carry out initial urgent repair works to get Park Centre back open serving the local community by late spring 2025.
Between 2025-2027 we aim to make a start on our refurbishment to bring Park Centre up to date. We aim to make the building accessible to all, a multifunctional space where many groups can function simultaneously.
This requires a refit of facilities including the addition of new toilets, including additional toilets that can be accessed by those with disabilities, a new lift and level access entrance points.
We aim to add extensions to Park Centre to provide additional toilets, hire space and storage areas.
We have many repairs to make to the building including making significant repairs to the roof and replacing all of the windows as well as redecorating throughout. In our plans we aim to include solar panels and biodiversity roof spaces as well as bike storage.
*full plans will be available for the public to view at one of our information days and online in due course.

History of Park Centre
St John’s institute, now known as Park Centre was built in 1872 and gifted to the town by 19th Century artist and philanthropist Emily Temple. The institute was originally used for a range of recreational and leisure activities. It was vested in the Charity Commission Scheme of 1st November and then transferred to the St John's Institute charity in 1929. WSCC became sole trustees in 1974 and are now going through a process to transfer the asset to us the Park Centre Burgess Hill CIO.
Thank you
We want to thank everyone who supports Park Centre and we hope to get our community building open as quickly as possible.
