In the state of Libertas, physical conformity is enforced through a gene-modifying medication called ImmUnity.
A high-ranking official, Joe, struggles to combat the surge of resistance against the medication.
When Joe encounters Joni, an enigmatic young woman living in solitude, his growing fascination with her begins to consume him. The rebellion seizes it’s opportunity to combat the regime, but will Joe be brought down with it ?
Paper Tiger delves into the persistent stigmatization of physical differences, highlighting how human nature often leads us to make superficial judgments based on appearance.
The film seeks to combat the mischaracterisation of individuals who defy conventional notions of "physical normality."
By exploring the powerful influence of herd mentality, Paper Tiger offers an informed and empowering perspective on the realities of living with a birth defect or unique physical traits.
Paper Tiger is set in an oppressive and hostile heightened reality. The film addresses relevant anti-social and judgemental behaviours, weaved into a dark dystopia.
The film will adopt a realist and survivalist feel, reflected in its dominant natural lighting and earthy colour palettes.
The totalitarian climate will be reflected through indoctrinating audio-visual ImmUnity propaganda and desolate locations that have an overbearing presence.
The presence of propaganda is crucial to visually communicating the oppressive State of Libertas that you will be entering!
The ImmUnity and Anti-Immunity propaganda inflicts fear into compliance through threatening imagery and the use of derogatory names, e.g. ’Spoil.' It further emphasizes the philosophy of the flawed system of Libertas, and the behavioural impact this has on the civilians.
Our propaganda sensationalizes harmful attitudes that continue to cycle through our society at present. We aim to communicate the stakes of this behaviour.

It is important to The Paper Tiger Team that you are aware of our wider objectives and intentions in bringing this film to life.
1. To make an excellent, high-quality film that can bridge the gap between our time at Bournemouth Film School and the careers we want to pursue.
2. To develop an understanding of rare diseases, and its impact on the individual/their loved ones
3..To challenge the preconceived judgement, we place on people for their physicality
4. To combat the mischaracterisation of physical abnormalities in the media
“A recent study investigated the attitudes of the public towards people with visible differences, including birthmarks. They found that the hurtful behaviours, such as staring, or whispers may originate from the uncertainty on how to act rather than from negative perceptions (9). Such a conclusion highlights the need for public education and exposure to people with differences to reduce the stigmatisation”
